The cold weather is continuing to set in as we start to prepare for the holidays. During this exciting time of year there are plenty of terrific activities happening in the West Michigan area. Here are a few that you might want to check out.
Open Mic Thirsty Thursdays: Feel like you have a talent you want to set free? Love to sing or write poetry? St. Ambrose Cellars in Beulah is hosting this event taking place every Thursday kicking off on November 1 and going through to December 27. Show up to participate, check out the talents and get 25% off drink refills all day.
43rd Ski and Snowboard Swap: Get ready for the coming season at the ski and snowboard swap event. You can find new and used equipment, clothing, gloves hats and more for up to 70% off. A knowledgeable staff will be on hand to help you find exactly what you need, and the snowshoe bar will be open for food and drinks. The event takes place November 2, 3 and 4 at the Timber Ridge Ski Area in Gobles.
Horse Drawn Trolley Rides: Nothing can quite get you in the spirit like a great horse-drawn trolley ride. Taking place on various Fridays and Saturdays and running up to Dec. 8, these rides take you on a scenic tour of historic St. Joseph.
Walking Tours of Downtown Kalamazoo Breweries: West Michigan is known for its breweries so why not take the ultimate tour? These tours are offered every Thursday year round but the brisk fall weather and coming holiday season make November a great time to check out some of Kalamazoo’s best. Tours typically include a visit to three breweries as well as samples and a gift bag but can be customized for parties, groups, and celebrations.
Movement Fun With Arts in Motion Studio: This event offers creative, musical movement for individuals with disabilities. Students can explore different kinds of music using a variety of props. The class is lead by Sarah Miller and will be taking place on November 5 and 12 at Arts in Motion Studio at 4 PM. It is open to students from 7 – 18 years of age.
Soup’s On!: If you love soup, then this is the event for you! Stop by the Krasl Art Center November 7, 8 or 9 to enjoy a delicious bowl of soup while checking out one of a kind gifts from the center’s featured artists. Choose from a selection of handmade bowls, mugs, dishes, paper goods, jewelry, wearables and more.
Gonzo’s BiggDogg 5th Anniversary Party: Gonzo’s Biggdogg Brewing will be celebrating its 5th anniversary and they want you to join them! Taking place over the course of 5 days, Nov. 9 – 13, the brewery will be featuring new releases, old favorites, tasty food, and live music.
Yoga at the GRAM: Yoga has long been seen as a great way to relieve stress while staying healthy. What better place to engage in this beneficial physical activity than at the GRAM where you are surrounded by artistic beauty? The session takes place on Thursday, November 15, a night when admission to the museum is free. Those who wish to participate can pay what they please. Donations will go directly to supporting AM Yoga, the organization who hosts the event. It is open to all levels.
Christmas Through Lowell: A great way to get a jumpstart on your holiday shopping, this event will include Lowell’s local business, homes, artists and crafters. Come through to find unique items that will make for gifts your friends and family are sure to treasure. The event will be taking place November 16 – 18.
Wreath It Up Workshop: Wreaths are lovely items and can make for great looking holiday decorations. During the workshop event, you will be provided an artificial wreath. Bring your own items to decorate it as you see fit. This is a great activity for a child and adult to do together. It will be taking place on November 16 and 17 at Lowell Arts and anyone can participate as long as supplies last.
Yoga With a Vu: Taking place once a month, November’s session will be held at the City Flats Hotel on November 18. The yoga will be led by Chelsea Marie Fox and there will be drinks and hors-d’oeuvres served afterward. There will also be a variety of health and wellness vendors on hand to showcase their products and services.
Holiday in the Park: This annual event will be taking place on November 23 and 24. It is celebrated with the lighting of the tree, ice skating, a Santa Paws Pet Parade, luminaries, holiday treats and more.
Black Star Farms Premium Wine and Cheese Tasting: Come down to Black Star Farms Wine and Cheese Tasting at their Suttons Bay tasting room! This event allows you to taste six wines, sample from an artisan cheese board, eat house made crackers and enjoy a special sweet treat. Guest will leave with a souvenir glass. This perfect-for-the-holidays event takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays from Nov. 1 – Dec. 31.
Christmas Again!: The holidays are a great time to enjoy a musical. Seeing Christmas Again! is the perfect way to ring in the holidays. Follow the story of Paula, a perfect party planner who just can’t seem to get anything right this holiday season…until she digs through her old family decorations to find a magic bell that lets her get a do-over! Take the family down for this heartwarming performance taking place at Cornwell’s Turkeyville November 1- December 22.
